What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning disability that is rooted in difficulties with language. It includes a range of challenges related to language processing, most notably with reading. Individuals with dyslexia often struggle not only with reading but also with spelling, writing, and correctly pronouncing words. Dyslexia is a lifelong condition, though the ways it affects a person may shift over time. Because it can significantly interfere with learning in a traditional classroom setting, dyslexia may make academic success difficult without support. In more severe cases, students may qualify for special education services, classroom accommodations, or additional instructional assistance (International Dyslexia Association)
